What Does a Woman Truly Want?
The question, "What does a woman truly want?" has been a subject of intrigue and debate for centuries. A tale from ancient times provides a fascinating answer to this age-old query, shedding light on the deeper truths of human nature and freedom.
The Scholar's Dilemma
Once, a learned scholar was sentenced to death. The king, in an attempt to grant him mercy, posed a question: "Tell me, what does a woman truly want? Answer correctly, and I will spare your life". The scholar, though wise, could not provide an answer. He requested time to search for the answer and, in a rare moment of grace, the king allowed him one year to find the truth.
During his year-long journey, the scholar consulted countless people, from wise men to sages, but none could provide a satisfactory answer. Frustrated and on the verge of losing hope, he heard of an old witch living in a distant land who might have the answer.
The Witch's Deal
The witch, a mysterious figure, agreed to provide the answer - but only on one condition. The scholar had to marry her. After careful thought, and driven by the urgency of saving his life, the scholar agreed to the deal.
Once married, the witch presented him with a strange proposition: "I can be either a beautiful fairy or a dreadful witch for 12 hours each day. You must decide when I should be the witch and when I should be the fairy". The scholar, who was not only knowledgeable but also pragmatic, thought carefully. He realized that if she were a witch during the day, the day would drag on forever, and if she were a witch at night, the night would never end. So, he answered wisely: "You may be whichever you choose - be a fairy when you want, and a witch when you feel like it".
The Witch's Response
Upon hearing this response, the witch smiled and declared, "Because you have allowed me to live freely and make my own choice, I will choose to be a fairy all the time, every day, for as long as we live". The scholar had unwittingly solved the riddle, for the witch’s transformation was symbolic of a woman’s desire for autonomy and choice.
The Deeper Truth
The witch's final words explained the crux of the riddle: "This is the answer to your question. A woman, like any human, wants the freedom to make her own choices. If you give her the freedom to choose, she will always remain a 'fairy'—radiant, kind, and beautiful. But if you constrain her, trying to dictate her choices, she will become a 'witch,' bitter and resentful".
This wisdom holds true not only for women but also for men. If a man lives freely, according to his own will and desires, he will be like a deity - noble and virtuous. But if he becomes bound by restrictions and control, he too may become monstrous and cruel. The lesson is universal: freedom leads to divinity, beauty, and joy, while bondage results in suffering, anguish, and ugliness.
The Universal Lesson
In the end, the story teaches a profound truth about life. It is not about gender, but about the human spirit. Whether one is a man or a woman, the essence of happiness lies in living freely and authentically. To be able to make one's own choices is the path to inner peace and fulfillment. The story, therefore, is not just about understanding what a woman wants but also about recognizing that all individuals, regardless of gender, seek freedom - freedom to live life on their own terms.
In summary, the story underscores that in freedom, there is beauty, divinity, and joy. In constraints, there is only pain and suffering. The key to a harmonious life, whether as a man or a woman, is the ability to make choices, to live authentically, and to embrace the power of freedom.
